William IV dining table in rosewood
€ 4.250,00
A substantial antique English center table from the William IV period, circa 1835, generously proportioned with a 143 cm (56⅓ in) diameter circular tilt-top in beautifully figured rosewood veneer, showing rich flame grain and warm patina throughout.
The top is crossbanded and rests on a tilt mechanism above a tapering, fluted columnar pedestal terminating in a carved acanthus leaf collar. This descends to a concave triform platform base, raised on block feet carved as lion’s paw feet.
Please note: this table was originally made with a tilting top, a common feature of the period allowing the table to be folded flat against a wall when not in use. At a later date the base has been raised/heightened and the top has been fixed in the horizontal position, converting it into a stable, fixed-top center table. This alteration does not detract from the beauty or usability of the piece and in fact makes it a more practical everyday dining or center table. And there is a small restoration on the top, see the last photo.
