English Victorian Neo-Classical Marble Chimneypiece, circa 1880–1900
€ 3.950,00
Fine English Victorian chimneypiece in the Neo-Classical, Louis XVI Revival style, circa 1880–1900. Carved in finely veined white marble, with rich decoration of scrolling laurel branches, foliate friezes, beaded and geometric ornament, and a prominent central carved tablet.
The architectural form, quality of carving and restrained classical ornament make this an elegant and highly decorative example of late 19th-century English craftsmanship.
Approximately 162 cm wide × 108 cm high × 32 cm deep (63.8 × 42.5 × 12.6 in).
Condition: The marble shelf is broken and will require professional gluing during installation. There is also a small loss to one corner of the shelf. The decorative carving is otherwise well preserved and retains its original character.
A striking period chimneypiece suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
